The Woman King is a must-see movie. It tells the story of the all-female military unit in Africa that fought against French colonialists in the late 1800s. The movie is based on a true story, and it is absolutely fascinating. If you’re interested in history, pop culture, or Hollywood, then you will definitely enjoy this movie.

The Woman King is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and stars Viola Davis, who gives an absolutely stunning performance. The story follows the unit known locally as the Agoji (but Western Europeans called them Amazons), who were part of the Dahomey Kingdom in what is now Benin. The film details their training, their battles, and the political machinations that led to their eventual defeat.

The acting is superb across the board, but it is Viola Davis who really shines. She brings a level of gravitas and pathos to her role as Nanisca, the Amazon’s leader, that is simply mesmerizing. The supporting cast is also excellent, including Thuso Mbedu as one of the Amazons and John Boyega as King Ghezo.

The film itself is beautifully shot and incredibly well-paced. It’s a little over two hours long, but it flew by for me. I was completely engrossed in the story from beginning to end. And while it is a fictionalized account of real events, it still feels very authentic and grounded in reality.

The Woman King is an excellent film that should not be missed. It’s brilliantly acted, gorgeously shot, and based on a true story that is absolutely fascinating. If you have even the slightest interest in history or Hollywood, then I would highly recommend checking out this movie.
