It comes as no surprise that we all enjoy a good time, pun fully intended. But did you know that with that “good time” you’re also receiving health benefits? There have been studies that prove orgasms can help with stress relief, sleep, pain, menstrual cycle regulation, brain functions, and can even boost the immune system.
An orgasm releases endorphins and hormones such as oxytocin. The rush of oxytocin during an orgasm helps to alleviate pain and relieve stress. Oxytocin and prolactin contribute to better sleep. Orgasms have also been known throughout time to boost one’s mood. While it may be vulgar, the term “they need to get laid” didn’t manifest for no reason.
•Fertility
In 2015 Indiana University performed a study that found sexual activity triggers physiological changes in women that raises the chance of fertility. Orgasms in women helps with cervical contractions that can help sperm move to where it needs to be to induce pregnancy.
•Stress Release The release of endorphins and hormones during an orgasm brings on a sense of euphoria and also reduce cortisol which is a stress hormone. After an orgasm a sense of calm settles over you, as most of us well know!
•Healthy Skin Not only can you experience those benefits after an orgasm, but there’s also more! An orgasm can even make your skin look better. When you climax, the rate of blood flow in your body picks up, which results in more oxygenated blood cells reaching your skin. This makes your skin look flushed and radiant! That also means your blood circulation improves as your blood rushes to your genitals, delivering nutrients and hormones through the rest of your body.
•Boosts Immune System Orgasms can also increase oxytocin, white blood cells, and antibodies that are anti-inflammatory and help to boost your immune system. •Alleviates Pain We’ve all had pain whether it be a headache, muscles soreness, or menstrual cramps. Some may have noticed that after sex or masturbation, that pain is gone! That’s because climaxing releases endorphins and hormones such as oxytocin and prolactin, which help to alleviate pain. •Sleep We can’t forget about sleep! Those of us who have a hard time falling asleep can really benefit from an orgasm. Those hormones we discussed with stress relief, also help to bring on the ultimate relaxation and sleepiness. There’s no sleep better than a post-orgasm sleep. So the next time you’re feeling stressed, in pain, in a bad mood, or just need help falling asleep, jump in the sack! There’s nothing wrong with enjoying yourself!
